Tech Task 3 Audio

Ohio's New Learning Standards - Music
Grade: Kindergarten
Cognitive & Creative Learning Processes: Producing/Performing
K2CE Explore steady beat and rhythm.

Beat vs Rhythm

The following worksheets will be supplied to the student. Each worksheet has a different song and the key to help them understand what the beat is and what the rhythm is.

They will choose the appropriate video from a classroom channel on YouTube that goes with the worksheet.

Insy Winsy Spider

Hickory Dickory Dock

After completing this assignment, the students should have a better understanding of the difference between beat and rhythm.

I chose to use YouTube, a website for storing videos, because it is easy to use and familiar to many already. YouTube also allows the user to set up channels so it would be easy to group videos together for easy location. The students, even those in early grades, would be able to upload videos to save, use for assignments, share with family members, etc.

Some things to keep in mind with this type of assignment are: how many computers are available to your students, how familiar are they with using websites, and the security on YouTube is tricky for children who try to search for videos not related to the class assignment.

Watercolor shape family project

Grade: First grade
Purpose: Placing subjects in relation to each other to create a main idea. (In between, below, above, behind, etc.)
Learning targets: (1) Student identifies and shows a main idea in a work of art. (2) Identifies location in a composition. (3) Creates an oil pastel resist with secondary color.

The family art project was a fun one for me since I enjoy sharing details about my family, even if it is just to represent them with shape. Each member can be easily identified by their hair since each member of my family has unique hair color and styles. My daughter has curly dark brown hair, my husband has hair only on the sides of his head, I have blonde crazy hair, my oldest son has brown hair that is fixed to a point on his head and my youngest has curly light brown hair.

The scene is Arizona, where my daughter lives. We love to visit her on vacations and flying has become a favorite activity for the family.

In this project, I used oil pastels to draw the members of my family with just shapes and did not fill it in with color. I mixed red and yellow to get a pale orange color which I used it as a wash on the entire picture.

I positioned the subjects between two cacti and below a sunny sky. There are clouds above my family but it looks like my husband, who is very tall, has his head between the two clouds.

The learning standards included with this assignment are:

Visual Art
Elements: Color and space
Skills and techniques: Uses a variety of tools to explore ways of making lines and textures.

Funny family collage

As a fun project, I used Pixlr to create a collage of family members, then used available decorative stickers to add humor. This web tool allows you to modify pictures from your files, the internet or sample photos they offer on their website. There are also options for layouts, boarders, photo modifying, and much more.

The functions available are easy to use because the different options are labeled with both words and symbols and the website was easy to use overall.

I can use this as a project for additional computer experience for most any aged child K-8. The younger children will have more random art, whereas the older children can get very specific and precise photograph modification.

Since the children will use pictures of themselves, family members or classmates from pictures we've gathered, collected or taken, The Ohio Visual Art Standards for Producing/Performing for the kindergarten level will be completed. Specifically, 1PR - Demonstrate beginning skill and craftsmanship in the use of art and tools. Also 4PR Create an artwork based on observation of familiar objects and scenes.

Understandably, not all family members have the ability or involvement in order to gather digital copies of pictures so I would make sure there are plenty available for the students.

Students with disabilities may need modification with this assignment ex: vision impairment.

Access to computers in the classroom is necessary. If the classroom does not have computers, or enough to complete the assignment in a timely manner, arrangements to use a lab elsewhere in the school or nearby library or center may be necessary.

As always, any use of the internet must be monitored and supervised.
